Getting Extra Living Space With A Good Basement Design
Lee Dobbins

Defined Tag:

A good basement design can add extra living space to your home and provide you with an interesting space to gather with family and friends.

The first thing you need to do when remodeling your basement is to think about how much area you want to say about the storage which will be unfinished and how much you want to allocate to the finished design. when deciding where to locate these areas, you want to take things into consideration like entries and exit ways and windows. You don’t want to design your basement so that you have to walk through the ugly storage area to get to the really cool home theater and you probably want to make it so that the windows are in the finished part of the basement.

When designing the finished a review of your basement, you’ll need to consider how many rooms you want. Do you want one big room for home theater in gaming? Or would you prefer a couple of little rooms, perhaps a little TV room in the library room or a small workout room? All these things must be considered before you start to design the layout of the basement rooms.

If you think you will be spending a lot of time in the basement, one thing you might consider in your design is adding a bathroom. This can just be a little powder room at the sink and toilet or, if you find that your family is fighting over the shower in the upstairs bathroom you might consider putting a shower in to alleviates some of the congestion in the morning. No matter which type you up again, you’ll want to consider the current placement of your pipes when designing the placement of your basement bathroom.

Some other things to consider when remodeling your basement include the flooring, wall coverings and ceiling. You may be going just with the basics and leaving the concrete floor and putting in a drop ceiling or you might want your basement area to look like the rest of your house and consider installing hardwood floors of finished ceiling and nice drywall. You can add interesting architectural touches and really play up the area around the windows so as to make it seem less basement like.

Your basement design should be reflection of the way your family lives. If you are casual you want a casual type basement. If you entertain a lot that you want to include that into your basement plans. Using some thought before you finalize your design can help you end up with a space in your basement that is both beautiful and practical.
