Basement mold can be a big problem for anyone we finishing the basement and is one of the main reasons why people don't even want to try.  If you are basement is moldy and you probably don't even want to go down there and you may not even be willing to store stuff for fear that it will become smelly and dirty.  Not only is moldy key, it can actually become a health hazard so removing it can not only open up this area for extra living space it will also help you breathe easier.

Basement mold is an inevitable happening, especially if the basement is left untreated. Basements are often damp and humid. This promotes the development of mold along the cracks and angles, and even the surfaces, of the same. Indeed, it's the moisture that accumulates in the basement that gives birth to molds.

Molds are living things, fungus that feeds on wet moist surfaces.  They can be black green or brown and kind of ugly to look at but you usually don't see them too much as they grow in dark corners and behind things.  While they're not really harmful to the touch they can irritate your skin and are bad for people with asthma and allergies.  However, some molds do produce toxins  as part of their defense system. This may cause eye irritation, skin rashes and respiratory discomforts.

Most people are of the belief that they need to come in physical contact with basement mold before the same can pose dangers to their health. This is not true. Molds release spores that travel through air. As such, people within the vicinity of such a fungal colony are always in danger of the perils we have described above.

Here are some ways to get rid of mold in your basement:

* Keep the basement dry as much as possible. This means sealing off areas that produce leakages, using spray-on or roll-on solutions for concrete surfaces to prevent the accumulation of moisture, and drying off carpets that have been left wet.

* Improve air circulation in the basement. You can do this by constructing some windows, if possible, to avoid stagnant air. Or you can invest on an air conditioning unit or a basement dehumidifier for the same purpose. Exhaust fans are also excellent alternatives, and they are more affordable as well.

* A good way to discourage basement mold from growing is to always make sure the basement is clean.  Just because you don't go down there a lot doesn't mean she should exclude it from your cleaning schedule.  Especially during the big Spring and fall cleanings you should go down, hoe out and make sure there is no mold growing.
